Very Important School Board Meeting February 13, at 6 p.m.

Dear PVE Parents,

The very first objective listed on our PVE PTO bylaws reads:

“To enhance communication between the parents, teachers and administrators of PVE.”

With this in mind, I am asking parents at PVE to start asking questions and communicating with others about the funding challenges currently facing our school district.

As many of you know, several changes have taken place throughout the past couple of years in order for our district to make ends meet.  Currently, our board members are determining how to handle a $2.5 million dollar budget shortfall for the upcoming 2012-2013 school year.

At the last school board meeting, the board voted to eliminate all extra-curricular activity personnel costs from the General Fund, offer early retirement incentives, and cancel all non-teaching salary increases.    These actions, combined with earned income and savings from known retirements, will reduce the deficit by approximately $725,000.  However, there is still a long way to go.

At the next meeting, the board will continue to discuss how many teacher positions will be eliminated and how much of the Rainy Day Fund will be expended.

I urge you to talk to your neighbors, organize a car pool and attend the school board meeting next Monday night, February 13, at 6 p.m. at the Educational Services Center.  The decisions made in the upcoming months will affect the education that your children receive.
