Zionsville Education Foundation Awards Grants for Professional Development

ZIONSVILLE EDUCATION FOUNDATION AWARDS GRANTS FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The Zionsville Education Foundation (ZEF) Board of Directors selected three projects to receive their annual “Imagine” grants for professional development.  This year’s recipients are speech therapist Audrey Csikos, elementary music teachers Rebecca Hampton and Julia Graham and Union Elementary teacher Sara Hunter.

The total of the grants awarded is approximately $7,966.

Csikos’ grant will allow four speech therapists to attend the Assistive Technology conference in Illinois later this year.  The conference will allow the speech therapy department to learn new ways to reach children with communication disorders and help these children become functional social communicators through the use of technology. “Our children will be able to verbally participate in classroom activities, conversations with peers, and family conversations through the use of assistive technology that we will learn more about at the amazing conference,” said Csikos.  Joining Csikos at the conference will be Chris Alt (PVE), Randee Kleeman (Stonegate) and Carol Foulke (ZWMS).

Hampton and Graham will attend the National Orff Schulwerk Association Professional Development Conference in Philadelphia.  The conference provides the music teachers with the opportunity to receive updated research-based strategies and “kid-tested” materials, as well as learn from other music educators.  They will choose from more than 150 course offerings during the 4-day national conference.

Hunter’s award allows her to attend the International Society for Technology in Education 2012 Conference.  Hunter has passionately integrated relevant technology into her classroom this year and hopes to acquire even more technology applications to share with her school and the whole ZCS community.

“Thanks to the generosity of our donors, ZEF is proud to be able to support these educators in their continued quest for knowledge,” said Mike MacLean, ZEF Board President.  “These events not only benefit these enthusiastic teachers, but also their colleagues and ZCS students,” he continued.  All Zionsville educators and administrators with a minimum of three years experience are eligible to apply for ZEF Imagine grants.

ZEF is currently accepting applications for its fall classroom grant cycle.  Applications are due on September 26.    For more information on the fall grant recipients or any other ZEF program, please contact Executive Director Lynn Kissel at 733-4805 or lkissel@zcs.k12.in.us.   For more information on ZEF or the grant process, please visit www.zionsvilleeducationfoundation.org.
